Join our free, self-paced, interactive professional development course for educators. It is designed to help teachers, administrators, and school staff connect with Afghan and other newcomer students and their families — supporting them both inside and outside the classroom.
In this course, you will find:
Points of connection: Letters written by Afghan students and parents, along with students’ beautiful artwork.
Teaching strategies: Practical tools from experienced teachers to welcome Afghan and other newcomer students at the classroom level.
School and community perspectives: Guidance for building partnerships at the school-wide and community level to create systems of support for newcomer students and families.
You can complete the full course to receive 12 professional development hours. Or, you can choose to complete either of these modules separately:
- Module 1: Who are Afghan Resettled Students and Their Families? (4 professional development hours)
- Module 2: Welcoming Afghan Students U.S. Schools (5 professional development hours)
- Module 3: Partnering with Afghan Families and Communities (3 professional development hours)
We appreciate the funding and support received from The International Rescue Committee, New Jersey Office of Refugees, and the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, for the development of this project.
